Dogs do have a great reputation of being recognized as man’s best friend. But for this dog owner from New York, his best friend’s needs made him to win a $10 million jackpot.
Dale Farrand is a 73-year-old man from Fort Edward, NY, that was running his routine errands when he remembered he has a dog that needs food.
Farrand decided to make a stopover at Cumberland Farms department stores to make a purchase of his dog’s favorite treat, Slim Jims snacks.
Before he left the convenience store, he decided to purchase a lottery ticket for $30. Little did he know that this was his lucky day.
Upon scratching the ticket, Farrand realized that his dog – or is it the ticket – had won him the $10 million jackpot.
Immersed in excitement and disbelief, Farrand says he had to drive home and let his wife double check the ticket.
Walking like a million dollar dog
Indeed, his wife confirmed that they are the new millionaires in town and all thanks goes to their dog named Boots.
Asked what he would do with the money, Farrand says that he’s going to use the proceeds of the winnings to settle his mortgage. And that’s not all.
The man made mention of assisting his children and grandchildren with the balance of the proceeds.
Farrand received a lump sum payment of $6.7 million after settling the required taxes. If it wasn’t for his dog, he wouldn’t have remembered to try his luck on that day.
I wonder what the man plans to do for his dog. What would you do for the dog if you were the dog's owner?
